Nonprofit professionals hone grant writing skills

The Crown Point Community Foundation Nonprofit Academy recently wrapped up its Beginner’s Guide to Grant Writing workshop.

Representatives from the Purdue Extension led the two-part workshop. The initiative aimed to equip nonprofit professionals with the skills, knowledge and resources to amplify their impact.

Vita Ayala, Powers Health Cancer Research Foundation/Cancer Resource Center project assistant, called the workshop a good way to take an entry level dive into grant writing.

“Whether you have worked on grants before, or if this is your first time, the class offered insight to help present the best version of your organization,” Ayala said in a press release. “The study guide is something I will keep at my desk to reference when writing future grants down the road.”

Jeffrey Perz, Exceptional Equestrians Unlimited treasurer, was one of the 24 nonprofit professionals who participated in the workshop.

“The grant writing workshop hosted by the Crown Point Community Foundation was incredibly insightful,” Perz said. “It provided valuable tips and strategies for identifying funding opportunities for Exceptional Equestrians Unlimited.”

The foundation’s next workshop, entitled Strategies for Effective Board Governance, will take place June 10-11 at the Crown Point Community Library. The two-day workshop will focus on equipping nonprofit leaders and board members with governance skills. The interactive sessions will explore board roles, vision setting, fundraising and engagement strategies.

The Crown Point Community Foundation has served Crown Point and South Lake County since 1990. The foundation offers a range of charitable and civic activities.
