The Society of Innovators at Purdue Northwest is looking for people “quietly” helping Northwest Indiana move forward.
The nonprofit is accepting nominations through Aug. 28 for its 21st induction awards, which celebrate creativity, problem-solving and ingenuity.
“Innovation isn't limited to startups or new technology,” CEO Jason Williams said in a press release. “It happens in classrooms, factories, hospitals, government offices, nonprofits, small businesses, corporate boardrooms and neighborhood organizations. Sometimes it's a breakthrough product. Other times it's a better process, a stronger partnership, or a simple idea that changes lives.”
Nominating a colleague, leader, team or organization for induction is free. Self-nominations are encouraged.
The awards categories include:
- Individual Innovator
- Team Innovator
- Advocate for Innovation
- Advocate for Youth Innovation
Inductees earn their Chanute wings, a lapel pin that honors Octave Chanute who conducted glider flights along the Lake Michigan shore.

This year, the society founded the SparkeED: Spark Series to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in youth. The series features conversations with entrepreneurs and offers teaching materials.
