The United States Steel Corp. released its 2023 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Report.

The report reflects the Pittsburgh-based company's efforts to build and maintain a culture of inclusion. Specifically, the report highlights its efforts to diversify those who are chosen for leadership roles and commitment to pay equity.

“This year’s DEI report is not just a collection of facts and figures, but a reflection of our strategic priorities and core values as a company,” said David Burritt, president and chief executive officer in a press release. “While there is always room to improve, we’re proud to have created an environment where our employees and our company can prosper because we are respecting and valuing each other’s differences.”

Highlights of the report include:

  • 61% candidate diversity when filling positions at the director level and above in 2022
  • 100% commitment to equity in pay, promotions and performance management
  • 34% increase in employee participation in its employee resource groups compared to 2021, increasing the number of groups to eight.

The report is part of U.S. Steel's Best for All strategy, which is a commitment to an inclusive environment for all employees.

“We’ve made important, considerable progress this year in our diversity, equity and inclusion strategy consistent with our core values of safety, trust and respect,” said Michael Williams, U.S. Steel’s vice president and chief human resources officer. “We increased the diversity of our employees, senior leadership and board of directors, supported pay equity across the business and are on-track to accomplishing our multi-year goals.”

U.S. Steel was founded in 1901 and maintains locations in East Chicago, Gary and Portage.
