Sales of existing homes remain strong in Northwest Indiana

Northwest Indiana residents on the fence about selling their homes may want to get them on the market this spring.

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors, citing Indiana Association of Realtors data, reported Region sellers received 96.9% of list price in February, up 2.4% from 94.6% when compared to February 2020.

Supply of homes for sale in Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, and Starke counties, in February was estimated at 592, down 73.5% from 2,233 when compared to the same month last year.

The median sale price of homes in February was $185,000, up 8.8% from $170,000 in February 2020. The average sales price in February was $219,819, up 19.1% from $184,585 a year earlier.

Closed sales in February totaled 643, up 3.4% from February 2020 when 622 closed sales were logged.

January home sales also started strong. There were 711 closed sales reported in January, GNIAR reported, up 20.1% from 592 recorded in January 2020.

Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana ended 2020 on a positive note. A total of 11,672 closed sales recorded between January and December, a 10% increase from 10,608 when compared to the same period a year earlier.
