Region sales of existing homes ends 2020 up 10% from prior year

Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana ended 2020 on a positive note.

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors, citing Indiana Realtors Association data, reported 11,672 closed sales of existing homes between January and December, a 10% increase from 10,608 closed sales logged during the same period in 2019.

The year-to-date median sales price in December was $193,000, up 9.3% from $176,500 a year earlier. For the year, sellers received 96.7% of list price, up 1% when compared to the prior year.

For December, Region homes sales, which includes Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke counties, closed sales totaled 1,094, a 40.8% increase from 777 closed sales reported in December 2019.

Sales of existing homes also had strong showings in November and October.

The median sales price in December was $197,500, up 12.9% from $175,000 recorded the same month in 2019. Sellers in December received 97.4% of list price, up 2.7% from 94.8% reported in December 2019.
