Region’s home sales fall for third straight month

Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana fell for the third straight month.

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors, citing data from the Indiana Association of Realtors, reported September closed sales in the counties it represents, Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke, totaled 1,162, down 8.4% from 1,268 logged the same month last year. Closed sales also were down in July and August.

Inventory of available homes for sale in the Region in September totaled 1,262, down 28.7% from 1,789 the same month a year ago.

Sellers received 98.3% of their list price in September, up 0.7% from 97.6% recorded in September 2020.

The median sales price in September was $220,000, up 8.4% from $203,000 in September 2020. The average sales price for the month was $253,413, up 6.5% when compared to the same month last year.

Year-to-date home sales continue to run ahead of last year’s pace. Between January and September, there were 8,749 closed sales in the Region, up 4.9% from 8,342 when compared to the same period a year ago.
