NORTH LIBERTY – Hydro Aluminum has completed a $1.3 million investment in new equipment that will allow the company to expand into new markets and add employees.
The aluminum extrusion company will now expand into the heavy transportation market. The new equipment increases Hydro’s cooling and quenching facilities to it can producer heavier gauge products.
The 50-year-old plant, which has 120 employees, is expected to increase its capacity by 30 percent, allowing it to produce between 6 million and 8 million pound of aluminum a year. Employment could increase by between 15 percent and 20 percent.
Hydro Aluminum is owned by Norsk Hydro of Oslo, Norway. Its North American headquarters are in Baltimore, Md.
