The Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana Inc. has tapped an internal executive to be its next chief financial officer.

The Munster-based organization, parent of Community Healthcare System, announced June 1 that Gregg Ferlin will be promoted to CFO. He has served as the foundation’s vice president of finance the past nine years overseeing strategic financial planning, business development, physician relations and hospital administration.

Ferlin takes over for Mary Ann Shacklett who is retiring July 9 after spending nearly four decades with the organization.

“With Gregg’s extensive experience in finance and accounting, he will continue to play an integral part in the planning, directing and controlling activities at the hospitals of Community Healthcare System and CFNI’s other entities to help us achieve our long and short-term goals and strategic objectives,” said Donald Fesko, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana Inc.

Foundation representatives said Ferlin “developed processes leading to improved accounting, reporting and workflows” for Community Hospital – Munster; St. Catherine Hospital – East Chicago; St. Mary Medical Center – Hobart and the recently opened specialty hospital Community Stroke & Rehabilitation Center – Crown Point, as well as physician practices and Hartsfield Village.

Ferlin joined Community Healthcare System in 2011 as director of accounting, managing investments, budgets, accounts payable and payroll, and the bond issues and rating agency grades.

Prior to joining the foundation and Community Healthcare System, Ferlin worked for nearly 10 years as controller for Kerasotes Showplace Theatres and later as a financial consultant assisting with integrating the acquisition of KST into the $4 billion AMC Theatres company.

Ferlin has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Illinois-Chicago, with a major in accounting. He is a registered CPA in Illinois with memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society.
