Northwest Indiana will play host to over 6,500 athletes and spectators during a series of youth sporting events July 15–20.
The events will have an estimated regional economic impact of $10.5 million.
“These tournaments not only highlight the talent of young athletes but also showcase Northwest Indiana as a premier destination for regional sports,” said Phil Taillon, South Shore Convention & Visitors Authority president and CEO, in a press release.
The National Softball Association’s Northern World Series kicks off this week, with 145 teams from across the Midwest (ages 8 to 18) competing in Crown Point, Dyer, Schererville and La Porte. The tournament will bring in over 5,000 participants and spectators.
Three regional baseball tournaments from the Babe Ruth League are scheduled to take place. Jerry Ross Park in Crown Point will host the 9U and 12U Ohio Valley Regional Tournament with 20 teams and over 300 participants. The Schererville Baseball League will host the 10U Ohio Valley Regional Tournament, welcoming 10 teams and about 150 participants.
The USSSA Fastpitch Back Home Indiana Season Finale hits the field at the Cedar Lake Girls Softball Complex, featuring 10 teams. About 150 participants are expected to compete.
Lake Central High School in St. John will host the Illinois YMCA Swimming Long Course Championships, an event with an estimated 600 participants over three days of competitive swimming.
“With multiple venues, hundreds of teams and thousands of visitors, the Region is set to benefit from a significant economic and tourism boost this week,” Taillon said.
