Jason Taylor is excited about returning to the Great Lakes area. After stints in “faraway places,” he will become the new superintendent of Indiana Dunes National Park in Porter later this spring.
Taylor's most recent position is director of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute for the U.S. Forest Service in Missoula, Montana.
“I am looking forward to joining the talented park staff and contributing to the exceptional work already happening to care for a place that’s so special, ecologically and culturally, and to the community and partners,” Taylor said in a press release.
His 15 years of federal service include the Bureau of Land Management in the White River field office, National Park Service as the chief of natural resource management and science at Cape Cod National Seashore and the Alaska regional chief of natural resources, and superintendent at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Skagway, Alaska.
“(Taylor's) ability to manage resources through integrating science and ecology with land use principles will be a great asset to the park and the interdisciplinary team of professionals who steward it,” said NPS Midwest Regional Director Bert Frost.
Taylor earned a doctorate and Master of Science in natural resources and environment from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Michigan – Flint.
