WESTVILLE –The Purdue University Northwest Sinai Forum will feature presidential historian Jon Meacham, at 4 p.m. CDT, Sunday, Oct. 29 in the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex on the PNW Westville Campus.
The complex is located at 1401 S. US 421. The doors open at 3 p.m.
The Forum presents guest speakers who explore the compelling issues of today, providing audience members a unique opportunity to hear from experts in their fields about topics in the news and to pose face-to-face questions in a town-hall style setting. Sinai Forum Executive Director Leslie Plesac hosts the series, now in its 64th season.
Uncharted American waters
In his talk, “Understanding Trump: A Historical Perspective,” Meacham will explain why he believes that we are in “uncharted American waters,” and why, in terms of American politics, “we’re in a new day.”
As a presidential historian, Meacham takes a nonpartisan view of how Donald Trump won the presidency, what his victory means, and how he will govern.
A Pulitzer Prize-winner and contributor to “TIME” and “The New York Times Book Review,” Meacham is known for his depth of knowledge about politics, religion and current affairs. He understands how issues and events impact our lives and why historical context matters.
Historian, author and editor
Meacham authored the biography, “Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush,” which debuted at number one on the “New York Times” bestsellers list. His book, “American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House,” won the Pulitzer Prize in 2009. A book signing will follow the program.
He also writes “The Long View” column in The New York Times Book Review and he served as “Newsweek” magazine’s managing editor and editor. “The New York Times” called him “one of the most influential editors in the news magazine business.” He has appeared on Meet The Press, The Colbert Report, and Ken Burns’ documentary series, The Roosevelts: An Intimate History.

A regular season ticket is $100, which includes general seating for this and the two following programs. A patron season ticket is $225, and includes reserved section seating for this and the two following programs and exclusive receptions with the speakers before each program beginning at 2:30 p.m. CDT.
Students who show a valid high school or university I.D. may attend at no cost.
