Bothe the La Porte County fairgrounds and the 4-H program will benefit from a $100,000 donation from Hoosier Solar.
The funds will be managed by the La Porte County Fairground Management and Event Corp., which is developing a strategic plan for the site.
“Our board is working diligently on a vision and master plan to serve the community for years to come and make the fairgrounds a regional destination,” FMEC President Jimmy Pressel said. “Donations like this one will help us make it a reality.”
Those plans include infrastructure improvements and building upgrades.
“Hoosier Solar is excited to contribute to the revitalization of the La Porte County fairgrounds,” said Steven Lichtin, Hoosier Solar CEO, in a press release. “The fairgrounds play a critical role in hosting the annual La Porte County Fair, and providing a space to hold year-round community events and activities, while simultaneously providing permanent support to the agricultural community.”
The La Porte County 4-H program also will receive some of the funds for community events like trade shows and indoor markets.
“The La Porte County 4-H program is grateful for Hoosier Solar’s support and contribution to the fairgrounds,” said Kelsey Guadarrama, La Porte County Extension Director and 4-H Youth Educator in La Porte County. “The partnership will help FMEC make capital upgrades to the fairgrounds that will in return strengthen the LaPorte County 4-H program's ability to provide modern, welcoming spaces where 4‑H youth can explore their interests, learn life skills and build lifelong friendships.”
Hoosier Solar has invested in the Region's agricultural infrastructure before by rebuilding the swine barn at the Starke County fairgrounds.
This year, the La Porte County Fair is celebrating its 180th anniversary from July 11 through 18. Country singer Dylan Scott will headline the event on July 16. The fair will include a carnival, 4H auction, camping, music and food.
