SB Airport donates $5,000 to veterans

SOUTH BEND – South Bend Airport has raised $5,000 to assist local veterans. The money has been given to Kent Laudeman, director of the Robert L. Miller Sr. Veteran’s Center.

“We are honored and humbled to be able to present $5000 to the Robert L. Miller Sr. Veteran’s Center,” said Mike Daigle, SBN executive director.

The money was raised in conjunction with the airport’s Bears in the Air program to donate Teddy bears to children in the hospital.

“It is because of generous donors to the Bears in the Air program that we are able to give back to those that have fought for our freedom. It’s our turn to give these individuals a chance to overcome circumstances and reintegrate into society through the help of the Veteran’s Center.”

The Bears in the Air collection program began Nov. 30, when travelers and the public were invited to donate a newly purchased Teddy bear or make a cash donation in which a bear would be given along with a donation to the Robert L. Miller Sr. Veteran’s Center. A “Bear Den” inside the terminal served as a collection point for the bears.
