PNW nursing professor earns national recognition

Purdue University Northwest associate professor Julia Rogers received the AANP 2025 Award for Outstanding Contributions for Indiana.

The American Association of Nurse Practitioners award recognizes nurse practitioners who advance the profession at the state level. Nominees excel in professional leadership, educational advancement, research contributions and community impact.

Honorees demonstrate contributions to improving health care outcomes and advancing the nurse practitioner profession through education, research or policy initiatives. The AANP annually presents its state awards to one nursing professional in each state and the District of Columbia.

“This recognition from AANP is both humbling and energizing,” Rogers said in a press release. “As nurse practitioners continue to play an increasingly vital role in health care delivery, it is crucial that we embrace innovative educational approaches and technology to prepare the next generation of NPs.”

Rogers said that teaching and maintaining an active clinical practice helps her elevate nurse practitioner education and patient care outcomes.

“My goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding and better retention of complex concepts, so they are able to deliver excellent care to patients and their families,” Rogers said. “This award reinforces the importance of pushing boundaries in NP education and practice while maintaining our profession's core commitment to patient care and evidence-based practice.”

Amy Fry, dean of the College of Nursing at PNW, praised Rogers for her practice, teaching and scholarly activities.

“Dr. Rogers exemplifies the positive impact that nurse practitioners have in providing health care to individuals and communities,” Fry said.

Rogers serves as the Doctor of Nursing Practice program coordinator and a pulmonary/critical care nurse practitioner. Her contributions span research in 3D visualization tools in pathophysiology to hosting a podcast series. Rogers has also developed clinical practice guidelines for over 75,000 nurse practitioners nationwide.

AANP is a professional membership organization for nurse practitioners. It represents over 385,000 licensed nurse practitioners in the U.S. AANP aims to provide legislative leadership, advance health policy and promote education and research.
