CHESTERTON – The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District and NIPSCO are working together to create a green renewable power source for South Shore commuter trains.
NIPSCO will buy six weeks of renewable energy certificates for the south Shore which guarantee that renewable energy from solar and wind has been purchased in an amount equal to the electricity normally used by the commuter district.
One goal is to raise awareness of NIPSCO’s proposed Green Power Rate program which is being reviewed by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
