Longtime health care leader Janice Ryba, St. Mary Medical Center CEO, received the 2024 Distinguished Service Award.
The Indiana Hospital Association presents the award annually to an Indiana hospital CEO. Award recipients have made significant contributions to the organization, its patients, the community and the health care profession.
The Indiana Hospital Association represents 176 hospital members across the state. Ryba received the distinguished service award at the association’s annual meeting Nov. 14 in Indianapolis.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” Ryba said in a press release. “Thank you to the IHA and to our entire team of dedicated, skilled healthcare providers who are committed to serve patients and each other.”
Ryba started her career as a laboratory medical technologist and has risen professionally. She has led Hobart-based St. Mary Medical Center as CEO since 2007. Under her guidance, the hospital has expanded services.
Ryba has established programs to address health concerns, such as the home paramedic program and Continuum of Care Clinic. The programs aim to reduces readmissions and help keep patients safe at home. Ryba has led St. Mary Medical Center in accruing accreditations and achievements.
“Time and again, Janice has proven herself as a strong leader with a clear vision,” Donald Fesko, Powers Health CEO and president, said. “She is an advocate for the residents of Northwest Indiana, ensuring they have access to excellent health care services.”
Under Ryba’s leadership, St. Mary Medical Center has been recognized for its hip and knee replacement services and achieved American Heart/Stroke Association Gold and Gold Plus status. The center has also received accolades for its breast imaging services, stroke care and robotic surgery.
