A Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit is Merrillville-based Regional Health Systems' latest addition in advancing crisis care.
The unit has 24/7 availability, ensuring that individuals in crisis receive immediate support and connection to resources. The unit reduces the need for hospitalizations and law enforcement interventions.
A study commissioned by the Indiana Council of Community Mental Health Centers underscores the importance of community mental health centers in addressing behavioral health needs across Indiana. Community mental health centers and crisis units improve mental health outcomes, reduce emergency room visits, prevent costly hospitalizations and support individuals in living healthier, more fulfilling lives.
“The recent study shows that investing in mental health services pays off not just in lower costs, but in helping people reclaim hope,” said Bill Trowbridge, Regional Health Systems CEO, in a press release. “Our Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit reflects that commitment every day — by providing immediate, compassionate care, we’re saving lives and shaping a healthier tomorrow for the whole community.”
Regional Health Systems, a member of Regional Care Group, recently celebrated 50 years of serving Northwest Indiana communities. The milestone anniversary means more than looking back on five decades of service, Angela Comsa, Regional Health Systems chief clinical officer, said.
“It’s also about renewing our promise to stand alongside our neighbors and partners so that no one faces a mental health challenge alone,” Comsa said. “We’re here to ensure every person who needs support finds a path to real hope and lasting well-being.”
