Gary Shearer, Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana president and CEO, announced his plans to retire effective Jan. 31.
Shearer has led Fort Wayne-based Physicians Health Plan since May 2019. He was instrumental in completing Priority Health’s acquisition of Physicians Health Plan in December 2024.
Beginning Feb. 1, Ross Hensley, chief sales officer, will assume expanded responsibilities. He will represent Physicians Health Plan more broadly in the community, in addition to leading the sales team. Hensley has served at Physicians Health Plan for six years.
“Ross brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to drive the company forward,” said Rick Abbott, Priority Health senior vice president of employer solutions and innovation, in a press release. “He is trusted and well respected in the marketplace, and we know he will make a significant impact in his expanded role.”
Praveen Thadani, Priority Health president, expressed gratitude for Shearer’s service at Physicians Health Plan.
“We are very thankful for Gary’s visionary leadership of PHP over the past five years,” Thadani said. “He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working with him and for him.”
Priority Health offers health benefits options for employer groups and individuals, including Medicare and Medicaid plans. It serves more than 1.3 million members each year in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Priority Health was founded more than 30 years ago.
Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana is a commercial health plan offering employer sponsored benefits and third-party administration. It serves more than 50,000 members primarily across Indiana and Ohio. Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana was established in 1983.
