Twelve Valparaiso University engineering design teams will present their work at the 2023 Engineering Design Expo on Saturday.

The senior design teams will share their work during a free event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gellersen Center and Fites Innovation Center on the university campus. Attendees also can enjoy a free cookout for lunch.

“Engineering students put hundreds of hours of work into their senior design projects, which represent the culmination of their work at Valpo,” said Doug Tougaw, dean of the College of Engineering, in a press release. “The design expo gives those students an opportunity to share their projects while giving our visitors an opportunity to learn more about engineering and the work our students do.”

Projects presented at the expo must have both mechanical and electrical engineering components.

The Valparaiso University Police Department benefits from one of the projects: a remote-controlled surveillance robot. Another project offers a “smart barbell” for monitoring weightlifting regimes.

Nonprofit Opportunity Enterprises also will make use of one of the projects, a machine that will make cutting rubber tubes into bands easier.
