SCHERERVILLE – Ground has been broken for Residences at Deer Creek, a senior living community at Deer Creek Professional Park. The 2.4-acre site will be home to 86 private assisted living and memory care units covering 80,000 square feet. The units are expected to open in the fall 2012.
MERRILLVILLE – Modern Forge Co. of Blue Island, Ill., has announced it is moving to a site on Colorado Street in Merrillville. The move will result in a $17 million investment in the new site and will create 250 jobs. GARY – Gariup Construction received a $1.2 million contract as part of the $28 million overhaul of Marquette Park. MICHIGAN CITY – Vanair Manufacturing Inc. is expected to announce soon that it will invest $1 million to expand its manufacturing plant by 30,000 square feet. The project is expected to add 20 jobs. Vanair produces customized work trucks for municipalities, railroads, manufacturers and other customers around the United States.

MERRILLVILLE – White Lodging Services Corp. has announced plans to build a 1,000-room hotel in Austin, Texas. White, based in Merrillville, said it will be the largest hotel in Austin, home to the University of Texas. Ground will be broken on the Austin Marriott Marquis in mid-2012. When it opens, it will have 725 employees.
