LAPORTE – Since 1983 Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital, the La Porte Hospital Foundation and the La Porte Hospital Auxiliary have sponsored scholarships and awards/loans to provide financial assistance to students pursuing healthcare careers. MUNSTER – Through several private donations, 10 women will be able to receive diagnostic mammograms at the Women’s Diagnostic Center. St. John resident Shelley DeYoung is a two-year cancer survivor and said her recovery was because of Community Hospital and the Women’s Diagnostic Center along with support from her employer, Illiana Heating and Air Conditioning.
HIGHLAND – Prompt Ambulance Service of Highland has acquired the three Indiana locations of Keeney Ambulance and Transport Service. The acquisition price was not announced. Prompt acquired the operations in Rensselaer, Lafayette and Frankfort. Prompt said it plans to retain all 70 of Keeney’s employees. The acquisition puts Prompt into new areas in the state.

MUNSTER – Medical Specialists in Munster has announced it will erect a new building at 45th and Calumet avenues. Dr. Alexander Stemer, CEO, said the new two-story building will contain 36,000 square feet and should open sometime in early 2013. Stemer said the addition will contain services for bone and joint patients.
