Aleris to close Hammond facility

HAMMOND – Aleris has announced the closing of its Hammond plant, putting 20 people out of work. Aleris, based in Ohio, is an aluminum recycling operation and has operated in Hammond for 34 years. The plant takes scrap aluminum and recycles it for use as a slag conditioner, desulfurizer and other products used in steelmaking.
