The Franciscan Health Mobile Market program is getting a boost from Hammond-based roofing company Korellis to help those in need get fresh, healthy food in August.
The Mobile Markets provide food to those in need with drive-through events at various Franciscan Health locations. Franciscan Health employees volunteer their time to staff the events as well.
Korellis has long been a supporter of the Mobile Markets in Hammond, with staff members regularly volunteering their time to assist at the giveaways.
Since July 2021, the Franciscan Health Food Insecurity Program's Mobile Markets have served over 10,000 individuals and 3,000 families in North Lake County Indiana.
When a Korellis staff member reached out to Franciscan Health Foundation Director of Development MinDee Richard in June to get the dates for the summer markets, Richard said there were none planned. The Mobile Markets previously occurred monthly but have been reduced to major holidays due to state and federal funding cuts impacting the foundation and its partners.
Korellis offered to sponsor a Mobile Market in August.
“Distributing this fresh, healthy food to these families would not be possible without our partnership with Korellis Roofing,” Richard said in a press release. “Korellis has been our muscle and might during these Mobile Markets and without their friendship and help we would not be able to load all that food into those long lines of cars and serve so many in need.”
The drive-up Mobile Market sponsored by Korellis will take place 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 20, at 5454 Hohman Ave. in Hammond on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We were eager to sponsor a Mobile Market because it’s one of our favorite ways to give back and support those in need,” Myra Serrano, Korellis accounts receivable accountant, said. “Our team members truly enjoy being part of the program and we wanted to help ensure it continues for the families it serves. Korellis is proud to support Franciscan in making a difference in our Hammond community.”
