Governor visits Ivy Tech’s Valparaiso campus

Gov. Mike Braun toured Ivy Tech Community College’s Valparaiso campus to see workforce programs in action.

“Ivy Tech’s training model is one of the strongest workforce pipelines in the state,” said Braun in a press release. “These programs give students real experience with real equipment, creating graduates who are prepared to step directly into good jobs on day one. Employers depend on this talent pipeline, and Hoosiers benefit from an affordable education that leads to lasting careers.”

Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas, Chancellor Aco Sikoski and Vice Chancellor for Workforce Patti Shields joined the governor during his visit May 21. The visit focused on they ways state resources are supporting learning labs in nursing, welding, and technology usage in HVAC and energy industries.

More than 10,000 students attend the Ivy Tech location annually. Last year, those students earned more than 1,800 credentials from various programs.

Ivy Tech is a statewide community college system with more than 41 locations and about 200,000 students annually.
