Valparaiso-based United Way Northwest Indiana appointed Chris White as its new CEO.

White previously served as publisher of the Times of Northwest Indiana from 2013 to 2023. He brings regional leadership experience to his new role and a committment to community engagement.

Throughout his career, White has been involved with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, the Salvation Army and One Region. A former board member and chairman of Lake Area United Way, White played a key role in the creation of the Level Up program, a regional community development initiative.

“Chris’s deep roots in the community and his proven leadership in both the public and nonprofit sectors make him the ideal leader for United Way Northwest Indiana at this critical time in our growth,” said Marisa Smoljan, board of directors chair, in a press release. “His track record of collaboration, innovation and dedication to meaningful change aligns perfectly with our mission.”

White steps into the leadership role as United Way Northwest Indiana continues to expand its programs aimed at creating lasting, positive change in the Region.

“I am honored to join United Way Northwest Indiana and look forward to working alongside our team, partners and community members to build a stronger, more unified future for everyone,” White said. “Having been involved with Level Up from its inception, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the program grow and make a meaningful impact.”

White said he is excited to further expand the program’s reach in the communities United Way Northwest Indiana serves.

United Way Northwest Indiana is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives across Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton and Starke counties. The organization fosters educational, financial and health initiatives.
