The NiSource Charitable Foundation and NIPSCO recently contributed $100,000 to WorkOne and United Way Northwest Indiana.
Merrillville-based NIPSCO and NiSource will collaborate with WorkOne and United Way NWI. The donation helps fund the United Way’s Mobile Services Unit. The unit supports Level Up participants and community development.
“Through our charitable giving and community outreach programs, we strive to make a positive impact and improve the quality of life for all residents,” said Denise Conlon, NIPSCO public affairs and economic development manager, in a press release. “We are happy to support this initiative and believe that it’s important to give back and help those who are in need.”
United Way’s Level Up program provides job training, employment support, financial management coaching and assistance for people seeking better paying jobs. The program helps clients in a five-county area.
“We are excited about this opportunity to foster growth and sustainability in Northwest Indiana,” said United Way president and CEO Adam O’Doherty. “The Mobile Services Unit is a testament to our commitment to the community.”
By 2025, the Level Up program will have about 1,000 graduates, with each increasing their earning potential by an estimated $20,000 a year.
United Way NWI is based in Valparaiso. The organization works to support working families who can’t afford basic needs and assist community members who need help. Founded in 1957, its mission is to help all residents in the Region thrive.
NIPSCO is Indiana’s largest natural gas distribution company and second largest electric distribution company. It serves more than 1 million customers in 32 counties across Indiana.
Valparaiso-based WorkOne works with job seekers, employers and schools. It has nine locations in NWI and offers free services and resources for those looking for a job. They also help employers who are looking to build their workforce.
