Gov. Braun appoints new Lake County judge

Governor Mike Braun selected Lake County Circuit Court referee Daniel Burke to serve on the Lake County Superior Court.

“Daniel Burke is an exceptional lawyer who will bring his years of experience in the courtroom to his new role on the Lake County Superior Court,” Braun said in a press release. “He is hard working, dedicated to the rule of law and will do Lake County proud.”

As referee for the Lake County Circuit Court, Burke managed the filings for the docket. He also presided over dissolution of marriage cases and petitions for orders of protection and civil cases.

Prior to his current role, Burke served as Lake County deputy prosecutor. He appeared in court on a daily basis and primarily handled felonies, including murder and other high profile cases.

“As a lifelong resident of Lake County, I am humbled by the opportunity to continue serving my community,” Burke said. “Lake County is a unique and special place, and I look forward to serving her people as long as they will have me.”

Burke studied classical studies at DePauw University. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University. Burke is a Crown Point native.

A date for Burke’s swearing in ceremony will be determined at a later time.
