VALPARAISO – Porter Regional Hospital is pleased to announce that the relocation and expansion of its Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center is complete. “We are thrilled to be in this new space,” said Michael Woods, M.D., the Center’s Outpatient Medical Director. The new Porter Would Care and Hyberbaric Center is located at the Valparaiso Medical Center at 2000 Roosevelt Road.
The move is part of Porter’s ongoing efforts to make the outpatient services most needed by the community easily accessible. “I know our patients appreciate our new location,” commented Adam Conn, M.D., Inpatient Medical Director at the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center. “Not only is it easy to park at the Valparaiso Medical Center, our physical space is so much larger than our previous location, which makes our patients more comfortable.”
The expanded Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center has eight treatment rooms, two more than at the old location, and all of the rooms are equipped with high quality exam lights, in-wall computers and space for family members to sit when accompanying a patient. “Now we can move freely and work with our patients more efficiently and more effectively,” shared the Center’s Program Director Greg Zorich.
Zorich also shared that the Center has two new and advanced hyperbaric chambers. “Patients will no longer feel so cramped,” he commented. “Transparent walls offer our clinical staff a clear view of the patient, and the patient enjoys a less ‘closed-in’ feeling.” He went on to point out that patients in the chamber can watch a DVD or listen to music and the hyperbaric room has enhanced safety features. “While we have two chambers now, we are able to add another when the time comes,” Zorich stated.
“Porter has made a substantial investment in creating our new office space and in the purchase of new equipment, which demonstrates the system’s commitment to the community,” said Dr. Woods. “Wider hallways more easily accommodate cart patients; we have a special ambulance entrance; and state-of-the-art technology has been installed throughout the facility. We draw patients from throughout the region because of our reputation for excellent care.”
“We have more than 500 patient visits a month and that number is growing,” said Zorich. He continued to explain that not only is Porter one of the few places in Northwest Indiana that offers wound care and hyperbaric medicine in the same facility, but the facility’s physicians and nurses are all specially educated and trained in advanced wound care. “We are proud that, with a heal rate of 94%,”we have a consistent record of successful outcomes.”
