Mascots from two Indiana-based professional sports franchises are among the 2020 National Mascot Hall of Fame inductees.

The Whiting-based mascot hall of fame announced Youppi!, the mascot for the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens; Boomer with the NBA’s Indiana Pacers; The Oriole Bird of MLB’s Baltimore Orioles; and Blue, the mascot of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, were selected by voters to go into the hall of fame in June.

The official announcement was made during the hall of fame’s annual Fur Tie Fundraiser held at the museum in Whiting.

Voting took place in October with 126,824 ballots cast to determine the 10 finalists out of 19 nominees. The four inductees were selected following two rounds of public voting as well as votes by MHOF members, and the executive committee.

The induction weekend event is set for June 12-14.

The Mascot Hall of Fame is a state-of-the-art, interactive children’s museum that was created to entertain, educate and enthuse children, families and sports fans of all ages.
