AT&T hires Valparaiso University alumnus to lead government relations

AT&T hired a Valparaiso University graduate to build relationships with local governments and community stakeholders in Northern Indiana.

John Roeder was named regional director, external and legislative affairs for Northern and Central Indiana. He is tasked with strengthening relationships with elected officials, businesses and other community leaders.

Roeder spent nine years in state government, including parliamentarian for the Indiana Senate, a specialized procedural guide during legislative sessions. He also was a senior operations director in Gov. Eric Holcomb's office.

“John's extensive experience working with government, business and community leaders throughout this part of Indiana makes him an outstanding addition to our team,” said Steve Rogers, vice president of external affairs for AT&T Indiana, in a press release. “He understands the issues that matter most to local communities and has built strong relationships across the region. His leadership will help us continue expanding connectivity and supporting economic growth throughout Indiana.”

His government experience also will support permitting efforts at the state level.

“Reliable connectivity is essential to economic opportunity, innovation and public safety,” Roeder said. “I look forward to working alongside our entire Indiana team, as well as community leaders across the region to support investments that strengthen our communities and help keep people connected.”

Roeder earned his Juris Doctorate from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Science in sports management from Valparaiso University.
