Munster-based Powers Health is building an emergency department at the St. Mary Medical Center Outpatient Center in Valparaiso.
“This new emergency department is an expansion of the depth of services already offered and is an investment in the well-being of our community,” said Janice Ryba, St. Mary Medical Center CEO, in a press release. “We are committed to providing high-quality care for emergent needs where and when it is most needed.”
The 7,000-square-foot emergency department is scheduled to open later this year. It will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. The emergency department will include two triage rooms, six treatment rooms and three negative pressure rooms for patients with infectious diseases.
Patients requiring hospital admission may be transported to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. Immediate care services will remain available at the south Valparaiso location.
Community Healthcare System changed its name to Powers Health on July 1. The name change honors Donald Powers, the original director of Powers Health’s parent company. Powers Health has four hospitals in Northwest Indiana and over 1,000 care providers.
