NorthShore Health Centers recently opened a new Crown Point facility.
U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan, Crown Point Mayor Pete Land, Crossroads Chamber representatives and Rusty the RailCat of the Gary SouthShore RailCats were among the about 175 people who were on hand for the grand opening Aug. 28.
“The expansion is in direct alignment with our mission, ‘building a healthy community one patient at a time.’ We are now able to connect with the community at a more personal level because we are meeting these individuals where they are, making health care a regular thing for them, not something that’s difficult to access,” said Gervay Dickerson, director of community engagement for NorthShore Health, in a press release.
David Hall, CEO of NorthShore Health Centers, said 26% of NorthShore Health's patient growth came from the Crown Point area.
“It was a clear choice to open a clinic in this community where access to health care is limited,” Hall said.
The location at 310 W. 112th St. is the culmination of the health care system's four-city expansion.
Guests enjoyed tacos provided by Mexico Lindo, a live DJ, tours of the building and activities around art, stress management and healthy eating.
The nonprofit has 20 clinics, which include primary care in local school districts. The clinics also provide dental, vision, chiropractic, podiatry, mental health and help with medication through pharmacies on site.
The Crown Point facility also has pediatrics, women's health and endocrinology services.
The facility was designed with patient feedback in mind.
“These are more than new buildings,” said Denise Carpenter, director of communications for NorthShore. “This is a direct result of us listening to what our patients and communities want and need. We strive for ways to eliminate barriers, meet our patients where they are, and provide them with the health care they deserve in a way that works best for them.”
NorthShore Health Centers strives to provide affordable health care to everyone in Porter, Lake, La Porte and Jasper counties.
