Wintrust expands in NWI with St. John branch

Wintrust Financial Corp. is continuing its expansion into Northwest Indiana with a new St. John branch.

The Oct. 8 opening comes on the heels of the Sept. 28 launch of the Wintrust Gary branch in the Tolleston Opportunity Campus. Wintrust also has branches in Dyer and Crown Point. A Valparaiso branch is next.

The 5,000-square-foot, two-story St. John building also will house Wintrust’s Private Trust Co.

“As a proud resident of St. John, I’m especially excited to bring Wintrust’s Private Trust expertise to the community I call home,” said Mary Ann Korenic, chief executive officer of Wintrust Private Trust Co., in a press release. “This expansion reinforces our commitment to delivering relationship-based financial solutions throughout Northwest Indiana.”

The full-service location at 9301 Wicker Ave. is a branch of Old Plank Trail Community Bank, a Wintrust Community Bank. It replaces “an eyesore at at 93rd and U.S. 41, as we continue our expansion to embed ourselves into the fabric of each NWI community,” said Curt Bowers, a Wintrust vice president, on LinkedIn.

Wintrust will celebrate a ribbon cutting on Oct. 22. Other community events will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Oct. 19 through 24.

“Wintrust is thrilled to be opening our next community bank in St. John,” said Timothy Lovell, chief executive officer of Old Plank Trail Community Bank. “This community continues to grow and thrive, and we’re excited to bring our local approach to banking to residents and businesses in the area.”

Krusinski Construction, which has headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois, built the St. John branch.

Rosemont, Illinois-based Wintrust was founded in 1991. It has more than 200 locations in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. Wintrust Indiana is part of the Old Plank Trail Community Bank system.
