American Banker names PNC CEO Banker of the Year

American Banker named PNC Financial Services Group's Bill Demchak its Banker of the Year.

The national business news organization said that under Demchak's leadership, the bank navigated 2023's “banking crisis better than many of its peers.”

In a message in the PNC website, Demchak credits efforts in diversity, equity and inclusion for building a culture that attracts the best employees.

“At PNC, we work together each day to continually improve upon a vibrant workplace culture where all of our 53,000 employees can make meaningful contributions to the company’s success,” Demchak said.

Demchak joined Pittsburgh-based PNC in 2002 as chief financial officer. In July 2005, he was promoted to leader of corporate and institutional banking. In 2009, he became senior vice chairman, and in August 2010, head of PNC businesses. The became president in April 2012 and chief executive officer in April 2013. He was elected chairman of the board in April 2014.

Before his time at PNC, he worked at JP Morgan before it merged with Chase in 2000.

PNC has branches throughout Northwest and North Central Indiana, including Munster, Schererville, Merrillville, South Bend and Granger.
