HealthVisions Midwest changes name to Healthways Alliance

HealthVisions Midwest changed its name to Healthways Alliance to better reflect its focus on collaboration that leads to healthier communities.

The organization also announced a new tagline: “Where community and health connect.”

The faith-based nonprofit has served vulnerable populations in Lake and Allen counties in Indiana for 28 years.

“The healthcare system plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating illness,” said Sharon Tubbs, executive director for Healthways Alliance, in a press release. “We believe, however, that true wellness starts in the community. Our multitier public health approach empowers individuals with knowledge and resources to take control of their health and drive lasting, generational change.”

Healthways offers free classes to help prevent or manage chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

It also launched a fee-based wellness program for companies that want to promote health among their employees and lower their insurance costs.

“While hospitals and clinics are essential, strong and informed communities are just as critical to supporting healthier lifestyles,” said Juanita Roman, Healthways’ director of programs and grants. “That’s why we do what we do — because where community and health connect, real systemic change happens.”

Healthways promotes that change by overseeing a coalition of community leaders in both counties.

Healthways' Lake County location is at 2914 Highway Ave. in Highland.
