VALPARAISO – Have pain in your knees and hips? Learn how to get relief at Porter Regional Hospital’s “Top 10 Things You Can Do for Knee & Hip Pain,” from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 19 in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East US Highway 6 in Valparaiso.

Most people will have knee and hip pain at some point as they age, according to Joel Phillips, Porter’s Center for Orthopedic Medicine Patient Navigator, with reasons typically ranging from wear and tear, injury, genetics or arthritis. Common symptoms include pain, aching, stiffness, and swelling in or around the joints.

During the seminar, Phillips will discuss the importance of a proper diagnosis for knee and hip pain, anatomy of the joints and the range of treatment options – from exercise and medications to surgery.

“Our goal is to help patients find the relief they need so they can stop suffering and return to their normal daily activities,” Phillips says. “During our presentation, we focus on the reasons people have pain in their knees and hips. It’s most often caused by arthritis – osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is what we most commonly see with knee and hip replacements.”

Pre-registration is required. To register, call 1-800-541-1861 or visit PorterJOINTCARE.com. For more information on the class, contact Joel Phillips at 219-983-8536.
