HAMMOND, Ind. — Area residents who want to improve their job and career prospects during the current economic recession can gain insights and perspectives at a Purdue University Calumet-hosted program, Tuesday, June 22 at 6:15 p.m.

Working Smarter in Tough Economic Times is designed for individuals searching for a job, others concerned about work force reduction, those who are at a career crossroads, others planning to return to the work force after an extended absence, and individuals who are exploring the prospect of starting or purchasing a business.

The 23rd annual Purdue Calumet program will feature brief, fast-paced sessions intended to help attendees focus on: how to be effective conducting a job search by thinking differently, how to use social networking to enhance a job search, how to self-assess work interests and environment in preparing for a job search, how to increase marketability through short-term educational options, plus success tips and viewpoints for starting and/or purchasing a business by entrepreneurs who have ‘been there and done that.’

“This program is intended for anyone who wants to become more job- and career-marketable during today’s challenging economy,” Purdue Calumet Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement/University Relations and program coordinator Wes Lukoshus said. “While not a job fair, this program, hopefully, will provide insightful information to equip and direct attendees for enriching, jump starting or redirecting their professional lives.”

To qualify for free admission, individuals must register by June 20. Otherwise, at-the-door admission is $20. Individuals may register on line by going to the Purdue Calumet Working Smarter in Tough Economic Times web site link at: www.calumet.purdue.edu/workingsmarter.

Prospective attendees also may register by phoning Purdue Calumet’s Office of University Relations at 219/989-2217 or toll free at 800/HI-PURDUE, ext. 2217.

All attendees will receive an information packet. Refreshments will be served.

Also sponsored by The Times and Post-Tribune newspapers, the program will be held in Alumni Hall of Purdue Calumet’s Student Union & Library—one-third mile north of Interstate 80/94 to 173rd Street, three-plus blocks east of Indianapolis Boulevard to the traffic light, north/left into a large parking lot.
