Gary Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Chuck Hughes earned a Distinguished Hoosier Award by Gov. Mike Braun's office.
State Sen. Mark Spencer (D-Gary) presented the award April 22 on behalf of the governor.
“This recognition is deeply meaningful to me because it reflects something bigger that any one individual – it represents service, community and shared commitment to making a positive impact across Indiana,” Hughes posted on LinkedIn. “I'm grateful to be part of a community that continues to inspire, support and challenge one another to do better.”
Hughes has been leading the chamber for 10 years.
“We are extremely proud that our great leader has been recognized for his tireless efforts over his entire life to help people, his community and all of Northwest Indiana,” according to a statement from the chamber.
The award is determined by nominations from the Indiana General Assembly. Submissions are reviewed but do not guarantee that an award will be given. It is one of Indiana's highest honors.
