IUN bus goes electric

Fuel Media, Gary Public Transportation Corp. and IU Northwest officials gathered to celebrate the rollout of a new electric bus.

The bus is wrapped in IUN messaging, logos and QR codes. Newly appointed IU Northwest Chancellor Arrick Jackson was on hand to check out the bus and had a symbolic sit-down in the driver’s seat.

“The vision has always been that we own our backyard by effectively reaching out to our students here in Gary, Indiana,” Jackson said in a press release. “One way to do that is through awareness, and this big bus rolling through town is a great way to let everyone know that Indiana University Northwest is here to provide high quality education.”

Denise Dillard, Gary Public Transportation Corp. interim general manager, said IUN is committed to sharing their message with the community through bus advertising. She emphasized the importance of the environment and accessibility to transportation to campus and across the Region.

“We want the Region to understand that GPTC is all about the destination,” Dillard said. “We can get you anywhere you need to go all over the Region, and being able to access educational institutions like IU Northwest is part of that service.”

Cheryl Anderson is a Gary native and co-owner of FUEL Media, the vendor that oversees the design and installation of bus wraps.

“It is always an honor to bring the vision of our clients to life,” Anderson said. “I am especially proud to see brands from my hometown being highlighted as the buses roll throughout Northwest Indiana. Hopefully, more Gary businesses will explore the opportunity of branding on buses. It’s a great way to expand their reach to more consumers.”
