The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority will host two public engagement sessions each about one Transit Development District.

The first will present the district for the Dune Park area. The session is at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Porter Town Hall, 303 Franklin St., in Porter.

The second will present the district for the Gary Metro station. The session is at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Gary Public Library, 220 W. 5th Ave.

A Transit Development District is a half-mile area, which has a train station as its anchor, that promotes growth in income and property tax revenue. The TDD boundaries were developed by analyzing community input, best practices and the market, according to its website.

The RDA so far has established seven TDDs in Northwest Indiana, including the Munster/Dyer Main Street boundary; the Munster Ridge Road boundary; the Hammond gateway downtown boundary; the East Chicago boundary; the Gary Miller boundary; the Portage/Ogden Dunes boundary and the Michigan City boundary.

Find maps of the boundaries on the Indiana Regional Development Authority website.
