MERRILLVILLE – The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority has announced that two conventions will return to the Star Plaza this year.
The Salvation Army and the United Council of Corvette Clubs will brings hundreds of thousands of dollars to the local economy.
The Salvation Army will bring 3,000 people and approximately 1,000 room night. Its convention will be this year and in 2012 and 2014. It’s expected to contribute $250,000 to the local economy during its run June 10-12.
The United Council of Corvette Club will be in the region July 8-15 in 2012. It will include drag racing, a road course, car shows and social activities. The convention was secured through the help of the Northwest Indiana Corvette Club.
It’s expected the convention will bring 200 attendees and about 560 room nights. Through visitor spending, the convention could bring more than $140,000 to the local economy.
