MICHIGAN CITY – Students at Joy Elementary School in Michigan City, for the fourth consecutive year, joined in Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City’s battle against breast cancer by raising $500 during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to provide funds to the hospital Breast Center to provide mammograms for women who otherwise cannot afford them. Students pay to wear jeans on Jean Days, with proceeds donated to local causes. During a check presentation, Jill Nygren, Franciscan St. Anthony Health vice president explained the importance of early detection of the disease and thanked the students for helping local women receive the cancer screenings.
