Raising Cane's fans in Hobart shouldn't expect a planned location to open anytime soon.
Raising Cane's said in a lawsuit filed in April that Crossings at Hobart and Schottenstein Property Group failed to disclose that McDonald's already had exclusive rights to sell chicken products at the location, according to Law.com.
That's a problem for the fast-food chain that touts its business plan as serving “only” chicken fingers.
Founder Todd Graves came up with the idea in a college class, earning the lowest grade, according to the Raising Cane's website. The chain has since opened 656 locations in the United States and its territories. Its website lists four in Indiana: West Lafayette, Avon, Bloomington and Mishawaka.
Raising Cane's confirmed in a Tweet in July that a restaurant was coming to Hobart in 2023. The location in Bloomington, Indiana, opened in September, across the street from Indiana University.
Both companies have not returned emails seeking comment.
The case was filed in Collin County District Courts in Collin, Texas. The company's headquarters are in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
