Northwest Indiana business owners will have an opportunity to learn more about the Office of Work-Based Learning & Apprenticeship, a new division of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development during two sessions on Oct. 17.
The first session is 9:30 a.m. at the Center of Workforce Innovations, 2804 Boilermaker Court, Valparaiso. Another session is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Purdue Technology Center’s Main Conference Room, 9800 Connecticut Drive, Crown Point. There is no cost to attend but registration is requested.
Darrel Zeck, the office’s executive director, and Carrie Lively, its senior director, will provide an overview and answer questions during both sessions.
The Office of Work-Based Learning & Apprenticeship was created in March by an executive order signed by Gov. Eric Holcomb.
Among the office’s missions is to expand apprenticeship programs. Its approach includes partnering with the U.S. Department of Labor to expand registered apprenticeships, then develop flexible and scalable programs, which focus on the state’s key economic sectors and regional high-wage, high-demand occupations. It then will build public-private partnerships to increase business and industry engagement with education systems.
