Northwest Indiana home sales through April ahead of last year’s pace

Spring sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana are running ahead of last year’s pace.

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors, citing Indiana Association of Realtors data, reported year-to-date closed sales through April totaled 3,064, up 7.5% when compared to the same period in 2020. GNIAR represents Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, and Starke counties.

Closed sales in Northwest Indiana totaled 845 in April, up 4.6% from 808 in April 2020. The median sales price was $200,000, up 8.1% from $185,000 the same time last year.

Sellers received 98.7% of list price in April, up 2.9% from 95.9% a year ago. The average sales price in April was $238,002, up 15.4% from $206,218 a year earlier.

More homes for sale became available in April. There were 1,318 new listings reported in Northwest Indiana in April, up 58.2% from 833 in April 2020.

Inventory of homes for sale remains limited. In April 2020, there were 2,047 homes for sale in Northwest Indiana, but that number was down 67% to 675 in April 2021.
