NIPSCO reopening Gary Business Office May 17

NIPSCO is bring back a long-time service to Gary.

Two years after the Merrillville-based utility decided to close its Gary Business Office over safety concerns fueled by the global pandemic, its preparing to reopen the site at 3229 Broadway on May 17.  

“The NIPSCO Gary Business Office has been a staple in the community for many years, offering our customers another convenient option to conduct business,” said Jennifer Montague, NiSource senior vice president and chief customer officer. “This reopening is a significant milestone to further our commitment to continue providing exceptional customer service.”

  • Services available at the walk-in site include:
  • Obtaining balance and billing information
  • Starting, stopping, and moving service
  • Setting up payment arrangements
  • Enrolling in the budget plan
  • Acquiring information on energy assistance 
  • Making payments using cash, check or money orders

Visitors entering the University Park Medical Center building and passing through the facility hallways where the NIPSCO Gary Business Office is located are required to wear a mask. Masks are optional for customers and employees while inside the actual NIPSCO walk-in facility.

NIPSCO said it will follow CDC recommendations and Lake County requirements as it pertains to COVID-19 prevention protocols. It closed the office in 2020.

NIPSCO’s Gary Business Office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. An afterhours drop box for payments is located to the right of the building’s main entrance.
