Kay Nelson Honored as Volunteer of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS — Kay Nelson honored as Volunteer of the Year at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce's annual luncheon in Indianapolis.

“This award honors those who diligently work with our organization for the betterment of the business community,” says Indiana Chamber President and CEO Kevin Brinegar. “They offered their time and expertise to make Indiana a better place to work and do business.”

Kay serves as chair on the Indiana Chamber of Commerce’s Environmental Committee

Nelson is an advocate and convener in her role as director of environmental affairs with the Northwest Indiana Forum, the region’s seven-county economic development organization. Her work influences policies that protect Indiana’s natural resources while fostering a healthy operating climate for area industries.

Kay Nelson is a key voice for Indiana on the Great Lakes Commission (she was the first non-governmental appointment from Indiana) and was involved in negotiations for the Great Lakes Compact. She also serves on the Chicago Area Waterways System Advisory Committee (CAWS AC), a group developing recommendations for preventing invasive species transfer between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River basins.

“We, at the Northwest Indiana Forum, are very proud of Kay, her unique set of skills add value to our organization and our members”, says Northwest Indiana Forum President and CEO Heather Ennis. “She is very deserving of this award by continually giving above and beyond in not only what is good for the region but also the state.”

The Indiana Chamber partners with 24,000 members and investors – representing over four million Hoosiers – to achieve the mission of “cultivating a world-class environment which provides economic opportunity and prosperity.”

The Northwest Indiana Forum is the voice of business leadership and regional economic development organization serving Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Starke, Jasper, Newton and Pulaski Counties. With more than 125 members, the Forum works to create a positive business climate promoting investment and quality job creation while protecting the environment and critical components of a sustainable regional economy. Funded by membership contributions and grants, Forum membership translates into a direct investment in the region’s future.
