GARY – Representatives of Gary Chicago International Airport, the Canadian National Railway Co. and the Regional Development Authority, along with Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, announced a deal has been reached with CN that will allow runway expansion to move ahead.

“I am extremely excited today,” said Freeman-Wilson. “We are one step closer to the completion of the runway. This shows what happens when all parties work together.”

The agreement allows CN to buy and use land to move its tracks so the main runway at the airport can be lengthened. Once that happens, larger aircraft will be able to land at the airport.

The runway program is part of a $166 million project to improve the airport.
