Franciscan Health's new Michigan City hospital has received additional backing from a pair of Region businesses.
Franciscan Health in a statement said Horizon Bank and Northern Illinois Public Service Co. each gifted the new Michigan City hospital $25,000. Horizon Bank’s gift will support the Blessed Maria Theresia Bonzel Community Room, a meeting space on the hospital’s first floor, while NIPSCO’s donation will support the Dunes Café, the hospital’s dining area.
A section of a dedication plaque that hangs in the cafe reads, “We look for programs and partnerships that are meaningful to the local community and the company. The Dunes Café is a project that makes sense. The new Michigan City hospital will serve many community members, and NIPSCO is pleased to be a partner with Franciscan Health.”
In the community room, a dedication plaque there reads, “Contributing to the betterment of the communities we call home is a value deeply rooted in Horizon’s culture. It is this value and supporting actions that have resulted in a philanthropic history that dates back to 1873 when Horizon first established in Michigan City, Indiana. Horizon proudly supports the vision of Franciscan Health and their dedication to addressing the healthcare needs in Michigan City and the surrounding communities.”
Dean Mazzoni, president and CEO of Franciscan Health Michigan City, was thankful for the contributions from NIPSCO and Horizon Bank.
“Their sponsorships help support our shared mission of service to the public through spaces that foster community and fellowship,” he said.
Franciscan Health’s new $243 million hospital in Michigan City opened Jan. 12.
