GARY – U.S. Steel Corp. will begun work soon on a $220 million project at its Gary Works site.
The project includes four coke oven modules that will allow the company to more efficiently and cleanly produce the coke it needs for the steelmaking process.
U.S. Steel announced the project several months ago, but couldn’t begin construction until all environmental permits had been approved. With the approval of the permits, construction will begin by the end of September.
During construction, 500 temporary jobs will be created.
